A castable fish bait dispenser 1 comprising an openable hollow housing 2a, 2b for containing bait, the housing being at least partially biased open, such as with a folded spring 3, with a latch mechanism 4 to close the housing. There is a trigger, such as an actuating rod or wire 8, to release the latch and open the housing, allowing bait to be released. The latch 4 may be biased to a closed position with spring 6 and associated thrust plate 7, such that when casting line 9 is tugged away from the dispenser 1 the latch 4 may be disconnected from the latch keeper plate 5 so the housing biases open and the bait is dispensed. Due to this mechanism, the bait may be dispensed mid-air and distributed over a wide area. There may also be hook formations 11, 12 which can be connected to prevent accidently release of the latch during casting. The latch mechanism may be operated remotely via radio frequency (RF) to control an electric motor, such as a solenoid type motor, to release the latch.
