The component (2) has a convex external portion (4) defining two condyles (42, 44) designed to rest against a polyethylene insert fixed on a tibial component of a knee prosthesis. An intercondylar cage fits in a femur of a patient, where the component is coated on one of internal surfaces (56, 64) to be in support against a resected part of the femur by using a coating layer (100) for promoting bone growth. The layer is affixed exclusively on the internal surfaces of the components, which are not part of the intercondylar cage.
