A pant-type absorbent article (1), at least one of the front and back panels (5, 6) having an elastic web material (10) constituting the sole component of at least part of the front and/or back panels (5, 6), the elastic waistband (7) being joined to the waist edge (5a, 6a) of at least one of the front and back panels (5, 6), wherein the elastic waistband (7) having a first and a second ply (20, 21) of substantially non-elastic web material (22) enclosing between them at least one elongate elastic member (14), the first ply (20) of substantially non-elastic web material (22) being secured to one side of the elastic web material (10) at the waist edge (5a, 6a) of at least one of the front and back panels (5, 6) and that the second ply (21) of substantially non-elastic web material (22) is secured to the opposite side of the elastic web material (10) just opposite said first ply (20).
