The present invention relates to an apparatus (10) for transferring fish conveyed in the longitudinal direction to a transverse conveying device (11), a corresponding method and an apparatus for transferring fish into a fish processing machine by means af said apparatus (10). The apparatus (10) according to the invention is particularly characterised in that it comprises a control device by means of which the fish are cyclically intermittently transferred out of a plurality of dispensing devices (18) into receiving elements (15) of the transverse conveying device (11).
