The present invention relates to a portable device, particularly a portable infusion pump device, and a protective housing for such a device for delivering fluid from an external source and controllably injecting fluid into a patient. The device includes a pump unit, a computer, a portable fuel source, and a sealing means for securing the contents substantially within the protective housing of the device. The device may be formed as a single infusion pump unit or may be formed when two infusion pump units are combined.
