A bird feeder 10 is provided having a seed reservoir 12 with a side wall 14 that has at least one seed access opening (20, Figure 2A) and a squirrel resistant feed port assembly 22 having a seed access restrictor (28, Fig 6A), and a rear panel (26, Figure 5A). The seed access restrictor has a body with an inner opening (60, Fig 6B) in communication with the reservoir side wall opening and an outer seed access opening (56, Fig 6A) that is spaced away from the inner opening and the reservoir side wall opening. The outer seed access opening of the restrictor may be small enough and the length of the body may be long enough that the squirrel resistant feed port assembly allows birds to access seed in the reservoir while blocking entry of the larger facial and head structure of a squirrel, thus preventing squirrels from gaining access. The seed access restrictor may comprise a dome-shaped cage, with both inner and outer openings being generally circular. The rear panel may comprise multiple apertures.
