An endodontic condenser system includes a tip to pack gutta-percha or other materials into a tooths canal, a heater to heat the tip, and a control circuit to determine the temperature of the tip while the heater heats the tip. The heater includes an electrically resistive heating element disposed in the tip and having a temperature coefficient of resistance at least 1.3x10-4/° C. and an electrical resistivity at least 1.7x10-8 ohm.m. The tip includes a body for radiating the heat generated by the heating element. The control circuit determines the temperature of the tip by determining the electrical resistance of the heating element as the heating element generates heat. With a temperature coefficient of resistance at least 1.3x10-4/° C., the electrical resistance of the heating element is sensitive to the temperature of the heating element. With this sensitivity and the control circuits ability to determine the resistance of the heating element while the heating element generates heat, the temperature of the condensers tip may be accurately determined.
