A muzzle apparatus for a horse comprises a muzzle 24 for holding a lick (36, fig 4), a headcollar (10, fig 1) and quick-release clips 20, 28 on both the headcollar and the muzzle for attaching the headcollar to the muzzle. The headcollar and muzzle provide means for optionally securing a horse to a hitching post while work is to be done. The quick release clips allow quick removal of the muzzle. The lick in the muzzle helps to calm/occupy the horse while the work is being done. The muzzle is preferably a bucket muzzle.
