The present invention relates to a posture maintaining apparatus for a wheelchair. The posture maintaining apparatus uses a damper, a rod, and a profile to employ a simple structure and be easily manufactured and used. More specifically, the posture maintaining apparatus has two support frames configured to move up and down in an oscillating motion in a staggered position that enable a user to sit on the support frames to let the user always maintain a predetermined posture regardless of the conditions of a road, which can be an off-highway road, unpaved road, and inclined road, the wheelchair runs on and prevent accidents such as the user falling from the wheelchair and the wheelchair being turned over. More specifically, the posture maintaining apparatus is configured to set the angle or position of the support frames based on the disability level of the user using the wheelchair to arrange the user in the most comfortable posture and maintain the predetermined position and angle of the support frames, which can be changed due to the road conditions, thereby enabling the user to always reliably use the wheelchair in the most comfortable posture regardless of the conditions of the road on which the wheelchair runs.
