To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus which more appropriately displays a reference image viewed to confirm positioning of a region of interest.SOLUTION: A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus comprises a positioning unit, a display control unit, and an imaging control unit. The positioning unit positions the region of interest on a positioning image of a subject displayed on a display unit. The display control unit generates a reference image corresponding to the position of the region of interest on the basis of an input image related to the subject, and displays the reference image on the display unit. After completion of positioning of the region of interest, the imaging control unit captures an image corresponding to the position of the region of interest in the subject.
