PURPOSE: An area detecting method and an area detecting apparatus using the same are provided to have advantages regardless of the illumination change of an operation environment. CONSTITUTION: An area detecting method is as follows. The image of an eyeball is inputted in real time. A user command for setting a template is inputted. The correlation coefficient between eyeball images is produced using a template matching algorithm. The SAD(sum of absolute difference) value on the eyeball image is produced. The correlation coefficient is compared with the SAD value. According to the comparison result, an artificial intraocular lens insertion area is detected. [Reference numerals] (110) Filming unit； (120) Input unit； (130) Calculation unit； (140) Detection unit； (150) Display unit영역 검출 방법이 개시된다. 영역 검출 장치에 의해 인공수정체가 삽입되는 안구의 일 영역을 검출하는 방법은 실시간으로 촬상된 안구에 대한 영상을 입력받는 단계, 촬상된 안구 영상에 인공수정체가 삽입될 영역에 대응되는 템플릿(template)을 설정하는 사용자 명령을 입력받는 단계, 템플릿 매칭(template matching) 알고리즘을 이용하여, 설정된 템플릿 영상과 실시간으로 촬상된 안구 영상 간의 상관 계수를 산출하는 단계, 실시간으로 촬상된 안구 영상에 대한 SAD(sum of absolute diference) 값을 산출하는 단계, 상관 계수를 상기 SAD 값과 비교하는 단계 및 비교 결과에 따라, 템플릿 매칭(template matching) 알고리즘 또는 SAD 알고리즘을 선택적으로 수행하여 촬상된 안구 영상에서 인공수정체가 삽입되는 영역을 검출하는 단계를 포함한다.
