The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and a use thereof, the composition containing an ethanol extract of Rumex acetosa L., as an active ingredient, for treating, preventing, or alleviating gastric diseases. More specifically, the composition of the present invention has effects of preventing and alleviating gastric diseases by inhibiting damage to gastric mucosa, and also has an effect of improving gastrointestinal motility, and thus, the composition can prevent and alleviate gastric diseases such as gastritis, gastric ulcer, and dyspepsia which are frequently occur in daily life. In addition, the present invention can prepare a ground to scientifically formulate Rumex acetosa L. which is used in a folk remedy. Also, in view of economy and health control, the present invention can attribute to public health improvement and related industry activation through a development of a gastric disease alleviating agent.본 발명은 수영에탄올추출물을 유효 성분으로 함유하는 위장질환 치료, 예방 또는 개선용 약학적 조성물 및 이의 이용 등에 관한 것이다. 구체적으로 본 발명의 조성물은 위점막 손상을 억제하는 위장질환 예방 및 개선효과 및 위장운동 개선효과를 가짐으로써 일상생활에서 흔히 접할 수 있는 위염, 위궤양, 소화불량 등의 위장질환을 예방 및 개선할 수 있다. 또한, 민간에서 사용되어 오던 수영을 이용하여 과학적으로 제제화할 수 있는 근거를 마련할 수 있으며, 경제적 및 보건적 측면에서는 위장질환개선제 개발을 통한 국민보건 향상 및 관련 산업의 활성화에 기여할 수 있다.
