An absorbent article (10) is provided with an absorber (1) that is formed as a result of: comprising multiple absorbent units (4) each including a long base part (2) and water-absorbent polymer particles (3) and arranging the absorbent units (4) such that the lengthwise directions (Y) thereof are oriented in at least one direction. The long base part (2) is formed of a hydrophilic sheet. The water-absorbent polymer particles (3) are immobilized only on the skin-facing surface of the long base part (2). Before absorbing a liquid, the water-absorbent polymer particles (3) do not extend, in the crosswise direction (X), beyond lateral edge sections (2s) of the long base part (2). Even after absorbing a liquid, the particles (3) do not swell beyond the lateral edge sections (2s).
