A segregator system 10 for use in a sheep handling system 10, the segregator system 10 being located adjacent a side fence or rail of the sheep handling system 10. The segregator system 10 includes a gate 12 including a vertical support member 15 and a plurality of obstructing means 18 each operably connected at a first end to the support member, each of the obstructing means 18 having a distal end, and actuation means to move the support member and thereby the obstructing means between an open position and a closed position. Each of the plurality of obstructing means 18 is arranged horizontally with respect to the support member and spaced vertically from one another. The plurality of obstructing means 18 take the form of horizontal plates. Each horizontal plate is shaped such that each plate, when the obstructing means is in the closed position, has a forwardly facing straight edge and a rearwardly facing curved edge. At least one obstructing means 18 is shaped to cause an oncoming animal to baulk at the obstructing means 18 as the obstructing means 18 is moving to the closed position and space between the distal end of the obstructing means and the adjacent side fence or rail is restricted.
