PURPOSE: A montelukast syrup formulation for oral administration containing montelukast sodium, pharmaceutically acceptable sweetener, water soluble polymers, and light shielding agent is provided to ensure stability of a syrup phase and drug compliance. CONSTITUTION: A montelukast syrup formulation for oral administration with improved stability and drug compliance contains 1 part by weight of motelukast sodium, 150-250 parts by weight of pharmaceutically acceptable sweetener, 2-10 parts by weight of water soluble polymers, and 1.5-10 parts by weight of light shielding agent. The pharmaceutically acceptable sweetener is white sugar, mannitol, sorbitol, xylitol, aspartame, stevioside, fructose, lactose, sucralose, saccharin, or menthol. The light shielding agent is titanium dioxide, talc, or carnauba wax.
