SURGICAL CLIPPING INSTRUMENT WITH AN ARTICULABLE END EFFECTOR. The present invention relates to a surgical instrument which may comprise an end effector including a channel configured to support a staple cartridge and furthermore a pivoting bearing plate between the open and closed positions relative to the channel of the staple cartridge. The surgical instrument may further comprise a closure tube configured to at least partially surround the support plate and the staple cartridge channel to hold the support plate in the closed position. The closure tube may extend around the backplate for a greater distance than the staple cartridge channel. The surgical instrument may further comprise a shank and furthermore a pivot joint that pivotally connects the end effector to the shank.
