Cosmetic treatment process comprises forming a coating on the keratin fibers comprising: (1a) preparation of an aerogel precursor composition comprising at least one organic solvent comprising acetone, 1-4C alcohols, and/or 1-6C alkanes, and at least one precursor compound containing e.g. (a) at least one atom comprising silicon, titanium, aluminum and zirconium; (2a) elimination of the solvent to form an aerogel composition having a bulk density of = 0.35 g/cm 3>;and (3a) applying, on the keratin fibers, the aerogel composition.
