PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aging retardant having sirtuin gene expression-enhancing action or IDO gene expression-inhibiting action and being useful for individual longevity and prevention/treatment of various diseases developing with aging and various diseases mediated by sirtuin or IDO.SOLUTION: There are provided a compound 1 and a compound 2. The compound 1 is (4aS,6aS,7S,11aR,11bS)-4,4,11b-trimethyl-7-hydroxy-1,2,3,4,4a,5,6,7,8,11,11a,11b-dodecahydro-6aH-cyclohepta [a] naphthalene-6a,9-dicarboaldehyde [common name: Galanal A] or Galanal B which is a 7R isomer thereof, or a mixture of these (including racemate).
