The present invention provides an apparatus and method for repairing heart valve function. The instrument typically includes a first section which is generally helical in shape and a second section which is connected to the first section. The method for locating the instrument is to position the cord bundle associated with the heart valve within the common spiral path of the first section and to position the second section on the other side of the heart valve. The first section can be rotated to allow the code bundle to move closer to the center of the first section.
