A method and an apparatus for examining a heartbeat signal based on a fitting curve are provided. The method includes following steps. A heartbeat signal which has passed an average process is obtained, and a characteristic wave is acquired from the heartbeat signal. A plurality of characteristic points of the characteristic wave are recognized. Based on the characteristic points, the characteristic wave is divided to a plurality of characteristic wave segments. Fitting is performed to the characteristic wave segments, so as to obtain a fitting curve corresponding to the characteristic wave. Based on the fitting curve, an evaluation parameter of the characteristic wave is calculated. The evaluation parameter is related to an unusual potential of the characteristic wave. Whether the heartbeat signal is an abnormal heartbeat signal is determined according to the evaluation parameter.
