A wound dressing includes a superabsorbent layer, a backing layer, and acharcoal layer. The superabsorbent layer isconfigured to absorb wound fluid and has a first side and a second, wound-facing side. The backing layer also has a first side and asecond, wound-facing side. The backing layer is substantially impermeable toliquid and substantially permeable to vapor. The charcoallayer is positioned between the first side of the superabsorbent layer and thesecond, wound-facing side of the backing layer. Thecharcoal layer is configured to increase a moisture vapor transmission rate ofthe wound dressing.
