A femoral stem used for hip replacement, particularly hip replacement for dogs and similar animals, but also for use in human implants. Specifically, the present invention relates to a femoral stem having lateral bolts or posts that protrude through the cortex or wall of the bone located opposite the neck of the femoral stem. Lateral bolts or posts reduce the occurrence of depression of the implanted femoral stem.
