The present invention relates to a system for purifying air in a rural or built environment or a transition there between, the system comprising: - at least two air throughflow elements for arrangement thereof relative to each other for combined functioning, wherein an air throughflow element comprises: - means for fixing to a ground anchor and/or a ground anchor relative to a ground, - a frame for providing a support to flora, the frame extending substantially upward from the ground, wherein : - the air throughflow elements are functionally adapted to support vegetation with a predetermined desired density value, and wherein: - the at least two air throughflow elements have in the arrangement of use a mutual distance lying between 0.01 and 20 times the average height of the at least two air throughflow elements. The present invention also relates to air throughflow elements and methods related to the system.
