Method for identifying the polled genotype in cattle, useful in breeding programs, comprises detecting any of seven new microsatellite markers, also new oligonucleotides
Identifying the polled (hornless) genotype of cattle comprising analyzing DNA for at least one of the genotype-associated microsatellite markers 59A3-A3r, -CSfa, -CSfb, -D3f, -D5f, -D8f, or -F8r (all sequences, of 207, 107, 200, 237, 208, 96 and 124 nucleotides, are reproduced, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the specified markers as new sequences; (2) oligonucleotides (ON) for the new method, having any of 14 sequences reproduced, and sets of at least two ON; (3) kit for the new method comprising a marker of (1), at least one ON and auxiliaries; (4) breeding hornless cattle that includes using the new method for selection; and (5) hornless cattle, embryos and fertilized ova produced by method (4).
