The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for disinfectingmedicalwaste. The method includes shredding the medical waste via a shredder untilthe medicalwaste has a predetermined particle size. Further steps include spreading themedicalwaste onto a heating conveyor and conveying the shredded medical waste throughaheating chamber via a heating conveyor. Thus, within the heating chamber, theshreddedmedical waste is heated via one or more infrared heating elements and at leastoneadditional heating source, e.g. induction heating, such that the medical wasteis heatedfrom a plurality of directions. The resulting treated medical waste isbiologically inertand clean and can be disposed of in standard commercial garbage or roll-offbins, whichare typically located at medical facilities.
