PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blower having increased reliability and less acoustic noise.SOLUTION: A double-ended variable-speed system for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) ventilation of a patient includes two impellers, which cooperatively pressurize gas to the desired pressure and flow characteristics, in a gas flow path. The blower further includes the gas flow path between a gas inlet and a gas outlet, a motor, and an impeller assembly. The impeller assembly includes a shaft in communication with the motor for rotational motion about a first axis, and first and second impellers fixedly secured to the shaft.
