The invention relates to an automated medical instrument designed for guiding a needle specific to the medical radio-frequency thermal ablation procedure, which can be guided by a device for positioning and orienting it relatively to the patients position, said device being a manually adjusted equipment or a medical robot which fixes the instrument before the insertion and maintains it fixed along the entire duration of the ablation procedure. According to the invention, the instrument has two degrees of freedom, one for inserting and retracting the ablation needle and the other for inserting and retracting the antennas from inside the needle cannula, where the two degrees of freedom are of translation, guided by two slides (2 and 3) mounted on a rail (1) and actuated by some rotary motors, by means of some screw-nut gearings, where, by mounting two elements (19 and 20) for supporting the ablation needle on the two slides (2 and 3), the instrument is capable to insert the ablation needle and to actuate the handle (4) of the ablation needle for inserting the antennas in order to carry out the ablation procedure.
