A bubble trap (1) for removing bubbles (21) from a stream (31) of liquid (3) comprises a grate (12) arranged in the stream (31), adapted to retain bubbles (21) that are drifting in the stream (31). The grate (12) comprises a grate wall (122) and two or more inlets (121) arranged on the grate wall (122), through which the stream (31) can pass the grate (12) downstream. The shape and distribution of the arrangement of the two or more inlets (121) on the grate (12) is designed such that a bubble (21) larger than a certain minimum size cannot pass the grate (12) without coming into contact with an inlet (121). Preferably the shape and distribution of the arrangement of the two or more inlets (121) on the grate (12) is designed such that a bubble (21) below a certain maximum size that is retained by the grate (12) can block only a part of the gross cross-sectional area of the arrangement of inlets (121).
