PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hair conditioning composition easily applicable uniformly even to wet hair, giving sufficient thick feeling in application, easily washable without leaving slimy feeling and excessive oil slick feeling, and having excellent conditioning effect to give smooth, soft and moist feeling to the hair after drying.SOLUTION: The hair conditioning composition comprises (A) 0.1-6 mass% cationic surfactant, (B) 0.05-3 mass% nonionic surfactant, (C) 0.2-10 mass% higher alcohol having a straight-chain saturated hydrocarbon group, (D) 55-99.5 mass% polyhydric alcohol having &ge3 hydroxy groups in one molecule and (E) 0.1-20 mass% oily component.
