Remote monitoring method 100 includes a measurement regime, which may be a series of times such as a morning, noon and evening. A signal is sent 104 to a remote monitoring device, prompting a measurement by for example a blood pressure or glucose sensor, heart rate monitor or ECG, possibly by audio or visual indication to the patient. Identity test 106 is carried out, which may use e.g. visual, fingerprint or other biometric sensing at the device. The data is communicated back to a central server 110, possibly over a wireless mesh network, and compared with data boundary information, preferably tailored to the patient, such as a minimum or maximum. The server processes 112 the data and performs an action 114 according to the result, which may be to prompt an additional measurement or to raise an alert, perhaps via SMS or email.
