A number of longitudinal flexible elements 11,12 extend from the first support to respective second supports 9,10 and on which the leading portion of the screen is supported as the screen is operated from the retracted to the extended configuration, wherein the leading portion of the screen is moveably mounted to the longitudinal flexible elements such that the leading portion moves with respect to the longitudinal flexible elements during operation and wherein at least one clamping system is provided on the leading portion of the screen for releasably clamping the leading portion to at least one of the longitudinal flexible elements. The apparatus preferably includes a transverse element 8 fixed to the leading portion of the screen and a roller casing 13,14 disposed on each longitudinal element that comprises at least two rollers that allow the casing to slide along the respective longitudinal element.
