Methods for revascularization of occluded vessels in infected individuals are provided herein. The method comprises administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of the ADAMTS13 protein isolated at a particular dose and time range after detection of an infarct. As described herein, ADAMTS13 advantageously re-opens occluded blood vessels and reduces infarct size when administered over prolonged periods after stable occlusion.
