PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air filter capable of promoting decomposition of a gas component in an activated carbon fiber layer 15 and increasing the gas component for a long period of time. In an air filter (4) having a layer (14) having a metal compound catalyst, a dust collection layer (13) and an activated carbon fiber layer (15), the dust collection layer (13) and the metal compound catalyst are removed from the inflow direction (upstream) of air. The layer 14 and the activated carbon fiber layer 15 were laminated in this order. The activated carbon fiber layer 15 has a high adsorption rate, and more gas components are adsorbed upstream in the layer. When the ventilation to the air filter 4 is stopped, the metal compound catalyst is decomposed also at the interface between the layer 14 having the metal compound catalyst and the activated carbon fiber layer 15, so that the gas components are decomposed from the upstream side of the activated carbon fiber layer 15.
