TITLE: PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF PLACENTAL MEMBRANE SCAFFOLDS AND PRODUCTS THEREOF APPLICANT: LOYOLA COLLEGE ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a process for the preparation of placental scaffolds suitable for wound healing applications and product thereof. The process comprises of recovering the amnion and chorion from placenta obtained from human, bovine, cattle, buffalo, porcine, goat etc, cleansed, immersed in a bath having high salt concentration for a predetermined time and subsequently treated in a bath containing protease lacking collagenolytic activity and lipase at a pH range of 5 - 10 for a predetermined time, at a predetermined temperature. Then, the enzyme treated placental membrane is subjected to an alkaline bath at a pH range of 8 10 containing collagen crosslinking/stabilizing agent, antimicrobial agent and MMP inhibitor for a predetermined time. Finally, the treated placental membrane was recovered from the bath and freeze dried. The scaffold is used in treating various types of wounds and ulcers of mammalian skin.
