A system for finding improved views includes a shape sensing optical fiber system (104) disposed on or in a prosthesis (102) to track the prosthesis in a volume. A real-time imaging system (110) employs a non-ionizing radiation source to image the volume having the prosthesis and reference positions in the volume. A search program (140) is stored in memory to search images of the real-time imaging system to identify the reference positions in the volume. An image processing device (148) overlays shape sensing data and images from the real-time imaging system and computes an improved view in accordance with improved view parameters.
