The method comprises the steps of pretreating a recipient gastropod with a relaxant, cutting an incision into the tissue of the recipient, cutting a subepithelial canal through the incision, inserting a mantle tissue piece and/or nucleus from a donor in the subepithelial canal, culturing the recipient gastropod to obtain a cultured pearl and harvesting the cultured pearl.
