PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a spectroscopic image in a near-infrared area in addition to a normal image without causing enlarging of an apparatus in size or resulting increase of costs in an imaging apparatus.
SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with: a light source unit 14 capable of selectively irradiating an object 3 to be observed with white light or light of a wavelength band different from that of white light an imaging part (CCD 15) having an imaging element which captures an image of the object 3 and spectroscopic image forming circuits (color space transformation processing circuits 29 and 51) which form spectroscopic image signals indicating a spectroscopic image of a designated wavelength. The imaging part selectively captures an image of the object 3 of each of first, second and third lights of different wavelength bands in a visible area and an image of the object 3 of each of at least fourth and fifth lights of different wavelength bands in a near-infrared region. The imaging part has a first spectroscopic element making only the first and fourth lights enter the first pixel of the imaging element and a second spectroscopic element making only the second and fifth lights enter the second pixel of the imaging element.
