The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an alpha -hydroxy acid and its salts such as lactic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid, tartronic acid or malic acid and a prebiotic agent such as inulin, fructo-oligosaccharide (FOS), lactulose, galacto-oligosaccharide GOS), raffinose, stachyose, isomalto-oligosaccharides, and xylo-oligosaccharides.
