A method for treating a subject suffering from cancer includes a step of administering an effective amount of the platinum complex to the subject. A method for inhibiting the growth of cancer cells includes the step of contacting a population of cancer cells with an effective amount of the platinum complex. The platinum complexes are particularly suitable for treatment of cancer through, in particular, photodynamic therapy.
