PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide variant forms of urate oxidase and uses thereof.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a genetically modified protein with uricolytic activity. More specifically, the invention involves a protein comprising a truncated urate oxidase, and production methods thereof, and PEGylated proteins including truncated urate oxidase. In one embodiment, the protein contemplated in this invention is truncated and has mutated amino acids relative to naturally occurring uricase proteins. In certain embodiments, the mutations are at or around the amino acids 7, 46, 291 and 301.
