A seal formulation for forming a physical barrier in the teat canal of a non-human animal for prophylactically controlling infection of a mammary gland by a mastitis-causing organism comprises a polymer in a gel base wherein the polymer is a lower alkyl vinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer or a salt derivative thereof. The lower alkyl vinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer salt derivative may comprise at least one cationic ion including monovalent, bivalent or trivalent cations and mixtures thereof.La présente invention concerne une formulation d'étanchéité, permettant de former une barrière physique dans le canal de trayon d'un animal non humain pour lutter de manière prophylactique contre une infection d'une glande mammaire par un organisme provoquant une mastite, qui comprend un polymère dans une base de gel, ledit polymère étant un copolymère d'éther vinylique d'alkyle inférieur et d'anhydride maléique ou un dérivé de type sel de celui-ci. Ledit dérivé de type sel de copolymère d'éther vinylique d'alkyle inférieur et d'anhydride maléique peut comprendre au moins un ion cationique, notamment des cations monovalents, bivalents ou trivalents et des mélanges de ceux-ci.
