A method for virtually designing a post and stump restoration (21; 321; 721; 1006) adapted for fixation on a damaged tooth (24; 301; 701) of a patient, where the damaged tooth comprises a hole (308; 708a , 708b) to receive the post (26; 326; 726a, 726b; 1011) of the post and stump, wherein the method comprises: - obtaining a 3D image comprising a first 3D scan comprising at least a part of the damaged tooth ( 24; 301; 701); - providing a 3D digital form adapted to fit in the hole (308; 708a, 708b) of the damaged tooth (24; 301; 701), wherein the 3D digital form is at least a part of a component adapted to fit the damaged tooth , wherein the component comprises at least one pole part (26; 326; 726a; 726b; 1011) adapted to fit in the hole (308; 708a; 708b) of the damaged tooth (24; 301; 701) and the digital form 3D of the component is a 3D digital form of an exploration bolt (309; 1400; 1500) comprising an internal part and an external part, wherein the external part of the exploration bolt is located at least partially outside the tooth, and the inner part of the scanning bolt is at least partially located in the tooth, where the inner part of the scanning bolt corresponds to the pole part; - virtually matching the first 3D scan of the tooth and the 3D digital form, where the correspondence comprises matching a surface region in the first 3D scanning of the tooth (24; 301; 701); with a corresponding surface region of the 3D digital form, such that at least part of the 3D digital form is represented in relation to the first 3D scan of the tooth (24; 301; 701); - virtually design the restoration (21; 321; 721; 1006) of post and stump based on the representation of the 3D digital form in relation to the first 3D scan of the tooth (24; 301; 701).Un método para diseñar virtualmente una restauración (21; 321; 721; 1006) de poste y muñón adaptada para la fijación en un diente dañado (24; 301; 701) de un paciente, donde el diente dañado comprende un agujero (308; 708a, 708b)
