A device and a method for assessing the likelihood of an imminent occurrence of cardiac arrest. The device comprises an optical sensor for monitoring the heart rhythm of a person. A Machine Learning Algorithm such as the Artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm analyze features from a trending of pulse intervals in the person's heart rhythm in real time to make the assessment.
