PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an estrogen related receptor modulator capable of being used in treatment of metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and hyperlipidemia.SOLUTION: There are provided compounds of the formula (VIII), pharmaceutically acceptable salts or base addition salts thereof, and use thereof. These compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable salts or base addition salts thereof can be used for preparing pharmaceuticals for treatments of metabolic diseases, for example hyperlipidemia, fatty liver, hyperglycemia, diabetes, obesity and the like by modulating an estrogen related receptor (ERR).
