An apparatus (30) and method of using the apparatus (30) to prepare a biocompatible biodegradable matrix capable of supporting cells to form an implantable or engraftable surgical device. A matrix-forming fluid is contained within a chamber (75) defined by top (51 b) and bottom (51 c) surfaces of a thermally conductive material and spacers defining the thickness of the matrix. The chamber (75) is then cooled to freeze the solution at a controlled rate, resulting in a matrix with a desired and uniform thickness having symmetric and uniform reticulations. The apparatus (75) and method reproducibly forms such a matrix, which may be populated with cells for transplantation and engraftment into a wound.Cette invention concerne un dispositif (30) et un procédé de réalisation dune matrice biodégradable biocompatible pouvant recevoir des cellules qui forment un dispositif chirurgical destiné à être implanté ou greffé. Un fluide appelé à former une matrice est contenu dans une chambre (75) matérialisée par des surfaces supérieure (51 b) et inférieure (51 c) faites dun matériau thermoconducteur, et dentretoises qui définissent lépaisseur de la matrice. On refroidit ensuite la chambre (75) pour congeler la solution à une vitesse contrôlée, ce qui permet dobtenir une matrice de lépaisseur régulière recherchée avec des réticulations symétriques et uniformes. La matrice obtenue au moyen de lappareil (75) et du procédé correspondant peut être reproduite et peuplée de cellules en vue dune transplantation ou dune greffe sur une lésion.
