Provided is an ophthalmic solution capable of suppressing the adsorption of hexamethylene biguanide which is used in ophthalmic solutions as an antiseptic component on a soft contact lens and ophthalmic solution container. The ophthalmic solution contains specific ratios of: (A) hydroxypropyl methylcellulose which comprises 28.0 30.0 mass% of methoxy groups and 7.0 12.0 mass% of hydroxypropoxy groups relative to the total amount of the hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and has a methoxy group/hydroxypropoxy group ratio by mass of 2.5 4.0 and a 2 mass% aqueous solution of which shows a viscosity of 50 4000 mPa�s at 20C (B) sodium chloride or potassium chloride (C) hexamethylene biguanide or a salt thereof (D) a 2 methacryloyloxyethylphosphorylcholine/butyl methacrylate copolymer and (E) water.
