Acne vulgaris is characterized by lesions that result from the action of hormones on the skin's sebaceous glands, affecting the areas with the highest density of sebaceous follicles. The key etiopathogenic factors for the onset of acne are: sebaceous overproduction, follicular canal keratosis, increased bacterial colonization and dermal inflammation. Among the various species, currently Brazilian red propolis has been scientifically distinguished for its distinct chemical composition and broad therapeutic action in various diseases. The chemical composition of propolis depends on the flora of each region visited by the bees and the period of resin collection. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action is related to the presentation of flavonoids, where these therapeutic functions occur through the synergism of these chemical compounds. Brazilian red propolis has been tested for its antimicrobial activity, with good results in vitro and in vivo, which gives credibility to the clinical therapeutic use, but no gel patents with Brazilian red propolis were found.
