An assembly and method for displacing bees from vegetation subject to cutting by mowing machines. The assembly is provided as blower means and an affixed funnel attachment. In operation, the blower means force air into the funnel attachment, directing a concentrated air stream to an area immediately in front of the mowing deck, displacing animals in the area prior to cutting by the mowing deck. A funnel mouth is oriented so that the emitted air stream is at least as wide as the mower deck, and multiple blower assemblies or larger funnel attachments may be used to accommodate larger mowing decks. A kit for retrofitting existing mowers is provided. A rake is further provided for use alone or with the blower means. The method for displacing animals includes selective actuation of the blower and/or other displacement means while operating the mowing machine.
