The device can be implanted in the eye to treat glaucoma. The device described herein includes a body defining a lumen and having a first end and a second end and an outer surface and a luminal surface. The body has a length long enough to provide fluid communication between the anterior chamber of the eye and the tear film through the lumen when the device is implanted in the sclera. By strategic choice of particular constituent materials and / or control of the shape and size of the lumen, in some embodiments the device is a filterless structure. In some embodiments, a filter is included. The glaucoma treatment device as provided herein is designed to prevent bacterial invasion and to provide the required level of efflux resistance to achieve the desired intraocular pressure.
