PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction force estimation method for estimating friction force between a casting mold and a casting piece from molten steel temperature of the operation condition, mold oscillation condition, a mold flux physical value and a flux consumption in steel continuous casting, and steel continuous casting method using the friction force estimation method.SOLUTION: A friction force estimation method for a casting mold and a casting piece in steel continuous casting related to this invention is characterized by estimating the friction force F[kN/m] between the casting mold 3 and the casting piece 5 from the following expression by using a molten steel temperature T[°C] in steel continuous casting, the average relative speed Vr[m/min] between the casting mold 3 and the casting piece 5, and mold flux solidification temperature Ts[°C] and flux consumption Q[kg/m].
